Mycotoxins and toxigenic fungiThe main objectives of my research are to characterize toxigenic fungi and mycotoxin contamination in foods and beverages; to evaluate the genetic variation of mycotoxin production and correlate it with the toxigenic profile of fungi. Phylogenetics is used to determine relationships among toxigenic fungal populations. Genomic approach is applied to evaluate the potential of secondary metabolites production in fungi. Analytical methods are used for analyzing the effect of food processing on mycotoxin and its masked forms. By adopting these strategies my goals are mainly focused on the development of strategies for controlling mycotoxin contamination in food products and to understand the ecology of fungal contamination and mycotoxin production in a diverse range of food products in Brazi
