The research group is focused on the development and validation of analytical methods for analytical toxicology, mainly to clinical and forensic purposes. We use gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to analyze medicines, pesticides and drugs of abuse (with special attention to Novel Psychoactive Substances). Our research is also focused on miniaturized sampling procedures (such as dried blood spot, DBS) and miniaturized sample preparation techniques (microextraction by packed sorbent, MEPS). Finally, we are working on the development of fast and reliable methods for the analysis of illicit substances in seized materials (forensic chemistry), using GC-MS, LC-MS and ambient ionization-mass spectrometry (EASI-MS, DESI-MS).
