Resumo Lattes
Eduardo Abreu (EA) works in the area of Applied Mathematics with an emphasis on the interaction between mathematical modeling, mathematical and numerical analysis and computer simulations. EA is Associate Professor of Applied Computational Mathematics at the State University of Campinas commonly called Unicamp, which is the 2nd best in Brazil, 10th in Latin America, and the 232nd best university in the world, according to QS WUR 2025 ranking. He earned a BA (2001) Mathematics-Major at State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), and obtained MSc (2003) PhD (2007) at UERJ under Direction of Felipe Pereira (Former student of James Glimm at Stony Brook University), on the modeling and simulation of nonclassical waves for three-phase flows in porous media (Best Thesis, Brazilian Society of Computational and Applied Mathematics 1st Prize for innovative technologies by Petrobras CNPq (Brazil NSF). His postdoctoral (2008) CNPq Young Investigator and Research training (2009-2011) were at IMPA-Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics on applied topics for hyperbolic problems in fluid dynamics with Dan Marchesin (Former student of James Glimm at Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences). EA is involved in supervision of PostDoc, PhD, MSc researchers. EA has acted as PI's within academia grants from the main Brazilian science funding agencies and from industry (Petrobras). EA is a member of the Red IberoAmericana de Investigadores en Matemáticas Aplicadas a Datos. Since 2019, EA is Chair of the Brazil InterPore Chapter (https://www.interpore.org/chapter-brazil) and since 2023 is Chair of the Interpore National Chapters Committee (https://www.interpore.org/about_im/national-chapters-committee). EA was awarded the 2021 Academic Recognition Award "Zeferino Vaz" and the most prestigious distinction given by Unicamp, for his outstanding scientific production (research excellence and outstanding academic achievements). EA is the recipient CNPq Grant Awards (from the Brazilian NSF) and currently is leading the project [March/2024 - June/2028] "Numerical analysis, discretization of discontinuous ODEs/PDEs flows and multiscale irregular fields", is member of the University Council and since June 2023 is also Coordinator of the Excellence Graduate Program in Applied Mathematics at Unicamp (elected again to the same position until May 2027).
