Forensic and Clinical ToxicologyThe research group focuses on analytical, clinical, and forensic toxicology, with an emphasis on the development and validation of analytical methods for the determination of drugs, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and other toxicologically relevant compounds in biological and non-biological matrices. Special attention is given to Novel Psychoactive Substances (NPS), including their identification, toxicological effects, metabolism, and metabolomic alterations, using integrated in vitro and in vivo experimental models.
The group develops and applies advanced analytical platforms, particularly gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS), liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), and liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS), as well as innovative strategies for miniaturized sampling and sample preparation, such as dried blood spot (DBS) and microextraction by packed sorbent (MEPS). The group also conducts metabolomics studies and develops rapid and reliable approaches for the analysis of illicit substances and seized materials in forensic contexts, including chromatographic and ambient ionization mass spectrometry techniques such as DESI-MS.
